On December 31st Madeleine, Clare, Brian and Amelia came to visit me in East Africa.  We travelled, we danced, we went on safari, we made clothing, we shopped, we cooked, we went to Jim Carrey movies and we sat in on lunch programs with little kids.  Basically - they shared a piece of my life here in Africa.  For that I am so so grateful.  They were here for two weeks - the first two weeks of 2009 - and what a great way to kick off the new year.  Here are some photos which help tell the story.

I have a job that I really do love, but first it requires that I qualify what “real love” is.  For me its this:

• I get to work with technology, people and communication.  Stuff I’ve been intrigued with since they first rolled a computer (Commodore Vic20) into my grade three class.  There was no turning back.
• I get to work in Africa - in many countries: Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Mali and Ghana (the last two of which I havent even visited yet)
• I get to work with radio broadcasters - they are in a position to make such a difference in people’s lives.  Some radio programs reach over 800 thousand people and more in a single broadcast! They are making programs for farmers - and a little difference in these farmer’s lives makes a HUGE difference for an entire country when 60% and more live on subsistence farming!
• I am learning total respect and humility for farmers and all they do for our world. Putting food on our plates.
• I get to be challenged: I have never really coordinated trainings before - and I am rising to new challenges and heights I didnt know I was capable of.
• I get to come home and write blog entries from the heart of Africa on my MacBookPro on a wireless internet connection while listening to the latest Tru Thoughts Records compilation “Shapes 08:02” which I downloaded via www.dancetracksdigital.com in the background. <grin>

I often get messages from friends saying they are really proud of the work I am doing over here - to which I often feel a tinge uncomfortable.  I quizzed and probed myself the other day on “why so I feel this way?” - I think it’s because I am just doing what I do!? I have ceaselessly followed my callings and harebrained schemes that someday my professional, personal and spiritual interests would align - like one of those crazy scenes from dune where the suns, planets and whatneauts line up.  It happens!
